Drainage and grading.
Standing water in winter and a soggy side yard are clay soil telling you where the water wants to go. Grading and drains give it a better route, away from your foundation.

What we do differently
Regrading
Reshaping the yard so the ground falls away from the house and water moves toward a planned outlet.
French drains and channel drains
Gravel trenches with perforated pipe, or surface channels across a patio or driveway, to collect water where it gathers.
Downspout lines
Buried pipe that carries roof water away from the foundation instead of dumping it at the wall.
Built into every project
Drainage is planned into every patio and retaining wall we build, not added after the first storm.
Common questions
Why does my yard flood every winter?
Sacramento's clay soil absorbs water slowly, and many lots are nearly flat. Water sits until it has somewhere to go. The fix is usually grading plus a drain.
Where does the water go?
To a lower part of the yard, a dry well, the street where allowed, or an existing storm drain connection, depending on your property and local rules.
Can drainage be added without tearing out my patio?
Often, yes. Drains can usually run along the edges of a patio or through the yard around it.
